"Library" Vintages: comments on wines no longer available for sale
2004 Reserve Pinot Noir: The blend for our first Reserve was decided after months of tasting from barrel. We ultimately selected only three barrels and were surprised to see that the grapes came from the first two blocks we planted – Pommard and Dijon clone 667. The profile resembles our blockbuster 2003 Pinot, and shares the same lovely soft tannins as the elegant 2004 Estate Pinot Noir. This wine has extra complexity, and an interesting warm minerality that adds texture. Aromas of dusty blackberries and red rose petals are followed by plums, black cherry and a hint of chocolate on the palate. Only 65 cases produced. Drink now - 2009 (Sold Out)
2004 Estate Pinot Noir:The second harvest from our Pommard and 667 clones, and the first for the 777, 114 and 115 blocks of three-year-old vines. In other words, the first representation of the entire vineyard! The result is an exceptionally elegant Pinot Noir: well-balanced and with a full mouthfeel and soft tannins. On the nose there are dusty rose petals, white chocolate and a lovely smokiness. The palate shows an attractive minerality, with the same ripe plum and black raspberry tones as the 2003. The finish is soft and warm. Reviews: "Outstanding: Wine Press Northwest: Its evocative nose of cherries, raspberries and fresh rain on pavement is very inviting. High-tone fruit flavors gush out with more bright cherries and berries, but there are forest floor and moist earth components for complexity and the tannins pack some grip." "Recommended! Northwest Palate While earthy aromas flit between dried cherry and old wood, cherry pie flavors win out in the mouth with a distinct jammy character that lends opulance. A streak of acidity provides freshness. Pair with roasted pheasant. " Drink now or before 2010
2004 Estate Riesling: Our first white wine was a stunner! Great aromas of lime, quince, slate, minerals, citrus fruits and hints of orange blossom. There's a tiny touch of sweetness, and great definition and harmony of flavors. Only 40 cases produced. Drink now - 2008 (Sold Out)
REVIEWS: "... a perfect partner for our summer salads and an onion tart. It is a refreshing and sprightly wine with floral, apple, citrus and mineral aromas. Slightly sweet, peach, apple and citrus flavors gambol across the palate while tightly focused acidity leaves the palate invigorated and begging for more." Rebecca Murphy, AppellationAmerica.com.
2006 Estate Riesling: The 2nd harvest from 5-year-old vines on one tiny acre of Riesling. This lovely wine shows the benefits of dropping fruit in the earliest years and waiting until the vines gain strength and maturity before harvesting. Aromas of lime, quince, slate, minerals, citrus fruits and hints of orange blossom. There's a charming hint of sweetness on the palate, and great definition and harmony of flavors. 1.4g rs, 165 cases, Retail price $21
91 POINTS: Wine Enthusiast, Nov 15, 2007: “A beautifully crafted wine, which wraps its fresh, crisp, citrus/apple fruit in whiffs of honey and jasmine…” Paul Gregutt
Oregonian September 18, 2007: “Clean. Mineral, yeasty nose with a hint of gasoline (which is a good thing). Slate on the creamy-textured palate, fresh orange notes to the finish. Pair with roasted chicken.”
Sunset June, 2007: “Off-dry, with an exuberant mix of ripe nectarines, spices, and citrus blossoms that gives way to mouth-filling tangerine and mango (complete with that haunting diesel fuel quality that mangoes have). It’s almost Viognier-like, with honeysuckle along with the tangerine.”
Northwest Palate : “Involved aromas of dried flowers, minerals, talc, apple, and fig keep you wanting to sniff this wine. Once in your mouth, the combination of creamy texture and tangy flavors keeps you sipping … Clean and refreshing…” Recommended.
Wine Press Northwest “This superior Riesling … shows the potential of cooler-climate Rieslings for the Northwest…” Excellent
2003 Estate Pinot Noir: Made in the traditional Burgundian way, unfined and unfiltered. This plush, beautiful wine reflects the vintage and the vineyard. The grapes were the first harvest from three-year-old vines and the 2003 growing season was hot and dry, leading to intensely concentrated fruit. Drink now- 2008, decant first for 30 minutes (Sold Out) |
